This is my second attempt at doing card relief. However this time instead of leaving it just on white card I decided to place a piece of coloured paper on the back of it to create a background. By doing this it makes the piece look like more of a finished product. I feel with this piece I am moving forward and progressing in the course. I really like this piece and believe it is very successful and I feel like I have accomplished the skill of card relief. This lead to me further doing card relief in my sketch book as I believe with more attempts I am getting more successful. The only problem with this piece of work is that it is a bit bland. Maybe I could have added more objects around the bottle and I could have shown that it was 3D by putting other objects behind the bottle and so on. Compared to my first attempt of card relief I am much more pleased with this second attempt.

Still Life: Card Relief
This is a still life piece of a bottle and ornament. I made this piece by firstly doing a line drawing with pencil. When I completed this I Then used a Stanley knife to create patterns to make the piece look more intriguing. For this being my first attempt at card relief I believe this piece is quite successful. It shows signs of a good work as I have cut out precise and unique patterns which make this piece my own. The bottle is very successful and on its own I would be very pleased. However in my opinion the ornament next to it is unsuccessful. This was because I rushed it to get a finessed product, but the consequence of this was the ornament not being at the same standard as the bottle. Overall for my first attempt at card relief I am fairly pleased.
Still Life: Bone in chalk
This piece show a drawing of a pelvis bone. I used oil pastels to complete this piece. By using black on white paper it helped me shade easily and create a piece that look 3D. I personally like the shading of this piece because I really have used the paper as an advantage to make the piece really stand out. Looking back at my first piece (the skull in ink) I believe this is as successful. This piece however is still a nice piece and I like particularly like the shading of this piece, however it simply does not stand out compared to other pieces of work I have done in class. The piece does not look complete to me. It shows signs of a good piece because the line drawing and the shading are very successful however if this was just one final piece it would not feel finished. This however can influence me in the future to include a bone like this in other pieces, but on its own it does not look like a finished product.
