Still Life: Artist Reference Van Gogh

This is work I completed in my sketch book. I used the influence of an old master, this being Vincent Van Gogh. I used Van Gogh examples to draw my own piece which is on the page on the right in my sketch book. I like Van Gogh's work because it is very colourful and he used a very unique painting style. I used examples of Van Gogh's work, like 'Vase with oleanders', which are very colourful and transferred that into my own work. As you can see Van Gogh liked to paint Flowers and skulls, therefore I decided to combine the two to crate a piece that I believe symbolises life and death. My piece is a skull split into two sections. One section of the skull is dull and dark and represents death. The other section of the skull is colourful and full of vibrant colours, this represents life.
This is one of my favourite piece of works in my sketch book, because it shows the skill of using the influence of an old artist and creating my own piece. I love the vibrant colours on this page which really stand out and this page really gives my sketch book character and just simply livens my sketch book up. I do think that I will use the influence of Van Gogh in my final piece, because I like the colours in his pieces and he uses skulls, which I have looked at and done on my earlier blogs. I believe this piece is very successful and it is definitely one of my favourite pieces.

Van Goghs work can also be related with my later project Human Condition which canm be seen later on in this blog. My final piece for that project was a theme of life and death and therefore Van Gogh  can influence me in that project as well as this one.
